@fnxTX That’s interesting… and certainly plausible.
On the bright side, only ~160 reachable nodes have been stuck at the same height past 24 hours, half @ genesis block. http://t.co/fEEYbSSFGF
@fnxTX Yeah, I’ve had nodes get stuck in weird orphan block loops on several occasions and the only fix was to restart bitcoind.
@fnxTX We know 16% are well behind the tip; the question is how many are stuck. The next step will be to measure velocity.

RT @adamludwin: Bitcoin apps will drive the price of BTC, but it will take time - it’s faster to place a trade than build an app:

Oddly enough, this is not due to a ton of nodes being stuck at the genesis block; the block heights are fairly evenly distributed.
16% of reachable bitcoin nodes are more than an hour behind the tip of the blockchain. Average node block height is 320,052 (2014-09-10)

4) Also, use of bitcoins buys you real world assets - the bandwidth, computing power, and disk space backing the blockchain.
3) As more Bitcoin-based companies come online, they add more utility and thus value to the BTC blockchain, increasing demand for tokens.
2) I invest in bitcoins from the viewpoint that they are akin to an index fund for the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.
1) Blockchain tech startups may provide a higher ROI than bitcoins, but they are not an option for the average nonaccredited investor.

At this point I’m fairly certain that the search for a “stable store of value” is a fool’s quest. Value is inherently unstable.
@barrysilbert @WorthWray @JohnFMauldin I’m not sure you can stabilize cryptocurrency price w/o controlling supply; its value → as utility →.

do not power it on;
and do not use one.â€

@JohnFMauldin @WorthWray Also note that value of the tokens is tied to security of blockchain tech due to incentives. http://t.co/gj8iaaOtaI
